Two things complicate it: at least three unrelated apps are currently called some form of “Face Harmony”, so a lot of reviews are describing a different product than the one they link to; and Umax's high rating sits on a build last updated in June 2024. Both numbers are Apple's, not ours.
How these numbers were read
Star ratings, rating counts, seller names and update dates come from Apple’s own app-lookup feed rather than from page text, because the two disagreed: one listing renders an 18+ badge where Apple’s data field says 17+. In-app purchase prices are not in that feed and were read from the listing pages the same day. Prices and ratings move — re-check before you spend anything.
1. Which Face Harmony are you looking at?
Before comparing anything, this has to be settled, because three unrelated products were live under the name on 12 August 2026:

Note how easily this misleads: two of them have almost the same number of ratings (104 and 101) and averages two full points apart. A review that says “Face Harmony is rated 4.6” and a review that says “Face Harmony is rated 2.3” can both be correct and describe different apps.
It gets one layer worse. ID 6762082467 is indexed by search engines under two different names — “Face Harmony: Face Rating” and “FaceMax: Face Rating AI” — because the listing was renamed and the old name is still cached. The numeric ID is the only stable identity. This article means the Clavicular app (6781068829), which is the one people mean when the name comes up in the looksmaxxing context.
2. Face Harmony by Clavicular
Clavicular is one of the more visible figures in looksmaxxing, with an audience built on documenting his own transformation; the app is that audience productised. Read 12 August 2026: seller Nathan Kest, version 1.1.2 dated 28 July 2026, iOS 15.6+, age rating 4+, 2.3 stars from 104 ratings.
It is actively maintained — a release two weeks before this was written — which is more than can be said for its comparison here. The rating is the problem, and it deserves an honest reading in both directions:
- What 2.3 legitimately tells you: enough people had a bad enough experience to go back and say so. That is real, and it is Apple's own number.
- What it doesn't: 104 ratings is a small base. A few dozen one-star reviews move an average that far, and apps that combine a weekly paywall with an unflattering verdict collect one-star reviews about billing and about accuracy alike. We would expect our own tool to attract some of that, and to deserve part of it.

ID 6471026798, Improvement Tech LLC. 4.6 stars from 51,343 ratings, age rating 17+, iOS 13.4+, current version 1.4.3 dated 28 June 2024.
The ratings base is the story and the caveat at once. 51,343 ratings is genuine, hard-won signal that almost nothing else in this category has. It was also largely accumulated around a build that is now roughly two years old. A high average and a stale release date are not contradictory — ratings persist, code does not — but a buyer comparing the two apps on stars alone is comparing 2024's Umax to last month's Face Harmony.

On the checkable facts, Umax is the stronger of the two on reception and Face Harmony on maintenance and on price structure — a $49.99 one-off against $207–$519 a year is the single biggest practical difference here, and it is the one most comparisons skip past to talk about stars.
Our actual opinion, marked as opinion: this is a choice between two unverifiable scores, and the more useful question is not which app rates you higher but whether either can tell you what specifically is driving the number. Neither publishes that. If a score you cannot check is fine for your purposes, take the $49.99 lifetime and stop paying weekly for anything.
